How to Convert HEIC to JPG
on iPhone — No App Required.
Your iPhone saves photos in HEIC format by default. When you need JPG for sharing, uploading, or compatibility, you can convert them right on your iPhone using Safari — no App Store download, no account, no file uploads.
Why your iPhone photos are HEIC (not JPG).
Since iOS 11, Apple's Camera app saves photos in HEIC format by default. HEIC uses advanced HEVC compression to store high-quality images at roughly half the file size of JPG. This saves significant storage space on your iPhone. However, when you need to share photos with non-Apple users, upload to websites, or use in applications that don't support HEIC, you need to convert them to the universally compatible JPG format.
Convert HEIC to JPG on iPhone using Safari (step-by-step).
Our browser converter works directly in Safari or Chrome on your iPhone. Here's how:
- Open this page in Safari on your iPhone.
- Scroll down to the converter and tap the upload area.
- Your iPhone will show options — tap "Photo Library" to select from your camera roll, or "Choose Files" for the Files app.
- Select one or more HEIC photos from your library.
- Tap "Convert All" — conversion happens locally on your iPhone.
- Download each JPG individually or as a ZIP archive. Files save to your Downloads folder in the Files app.
Alternative: iOS Share Sheet auto-converts to JPG.
iOS has a built-in feature that automatically converts HEIC to JPG when sharing via certain methods. When you use the Share Sheet to send a photo via email or AirDrop to a non-Apple device, iOS can automatically convert it to JPG. To ensure this works:
- Go to Settings → Photos.
- Under "Transfer to Mac or PC," select "Automatic".
- Now when you share photos, iOS converts them to the most compatible format for the recipient.
However, this only works when sharing — it doesn't convert files saved on your device. For actual file conversion, use the browser converter above.
Alternative: Change iPhone camera to shoot in JPG.
If you want all future photos to be JPG instead of HEIC, you can change the camera format:
- Go to Settings → Camera → Formats.
- Select "Most Compatible" (instead of "High Efficiency").
Note: This doubles your photo storage usage since JPG files are significantly larger than HEIC. It also doesn't convert existing photos — only affects new ones. For converting your existing HEIC library, use the converter below.

HEIC to JPG on iPhone — common questions.
Do I need to download an app to convert HEIC on iPhone?
No. Our converter runs entirely in Safari or Chrome on your iPhone. It uses WebAssembly to process photos in your browser's memory. No app download, no account, no sign-up required.
Are my iPhone photos uploaded to a server during conversion?
Absolutely not. All conversion happens locally on your iPhone. Your photos never leave your device. The processing uses your phone's CPU and memory, with zero network transmission involved.
Where do converted JPG files go on my iPhone?
When you tap Download, the JPG files are saved to your iPhone's Downloads folder in the Files app. You can find them in Files → Browse → On My iPhone → Downloads. From there, you can share, upload, or move them anywhere.
Can I convert multiple HEIC photos at once on iPhone?
Yes! When selecting photos, tap multiple images to add them all to the queue. Our converter processes them sequentially to avoid overwhelming your iPhone's memory. You can download all converted files as a single ZIP archive.
